Chinese Railway Workers of Canada

Landy Anderson (nee Ing), Chair, The Foundation to Commemorate the Chinese Railroad Workers in Canada (FCCRWC).

Landy Anderson is a descendent of a Chinese Head Taxpayer. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Ralph Lung Kee Lee.  Some may remember Mr. Lee because he was one of the rare few living Head Taxpayers at the time of The Right Honourable Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper’s apology in the House of Commons on June 22, 2006. Mr. Lee was also a railroad worker. Although Mr. Lee was not part of the early Chinese Railroad crews whose labor enabled the Last Spike to be driven on November 7, 1885, he was part of the work crews who maintained and extended the extensive Railroad network in Canada.  As a Chinese Railroad worker, Mr. Lee was one of the last links to the building of the Canadian National Dream.  In honour of Mr. Lee and the Chinese lives that were lost (4 lives for every mile) during the building of the railroad, Landy is the Chair of The Foundation to Commemorate the Chinese Railroad Workers in Canada (FCCRWC).

The Foundation to Commemorate the Chinese Railroad Workers in Canada (FCCRWC) is a registered charitable organization. The goals of the foundation include promoting the understanding and awareness of the contribution to Canada by the Chinese Railroad Workers who participated in the construction of the first transcontinental railway (the CPR) that united Canada geographically and politically; promoting the awareness of the government's legislation of unjust Immigration Acts against the Chinese pioneers and their families; establishing scholarships, and sponsoring other Canadian charitable organizations to promote Chinese Canadian History.
