Infrastructure and Inclusive Growth: My Career Journey

Angela Khakali is an economist working for the Ontario Government. She is passionate about the role of infrastructure in building inclusive communities, with extensive experience in developing infrastructure initiatives across key sectors.

Angela leads the broadband portfolio, where she designs strategies to expand internet access to 200,000 households in rural, northern and Indigenous communities. Her prior experience includes spearheading a $175 million health infrastructure fund to ensure patients receive high-quality care in safe facilities, as well as developing the Fintech Growth Strategy to attract foreign investment to the province.

Outside work, she is passionate about her role as a community leader. She volunteers for grassroots organizations, for example, leading Manyatta Network, a non-profit organization committed to creating economic opportunities for the African Diaspora and volunteering as a community representative for the City of Toronto’s Black Resiliency Cluster, to provide advice on the response to the urgent needs of vulnerable Torontonians impacted by COVID-19.

In recognition of her impact, Angela was awarded the Community-Builders Fellowship and selected as an emerging Toronto leader for the Curtner Urban Leadership Program.
