End Malaria Now - Columbia
Steve Baker was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a BA in Political Science. Soon after graduating, Steve met and married Peggy Belanger.
2001 marked a change in Steve’s life. Peggy accepted a posting in Caracas from her employer. Steve sold his business and moved with Peggy. During the 5 years he and Peggy lived in Caracas, Steve became involved with direct action charitable work. As a result of extensive travel in jungle areas and contact with the indigenous people who live there, Steve developed an anti-malaria project that bought and distributed life-saving bed-nets to isolated indigenous tribes.
Steve & Peggy retired to Key Biscayne Florida in 2008 where Steve joined the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne. Working with 3 Rotary International Global Grants, Steve and his Rotary partners in Venezuela have delivered 75,000 life-saving insecticide treated bed-nets to malaria hotspots in Venezuela.
Steve is currently working on the END MALARIA NOW – Colombia project and also works with RAM-Global, the Rotary anti-malaria action group.
